Nerys Arthur, King of Thieves

When Thordak, the cinder king, ruled over the lands of Exandria, a legend was born. Nerys was just like any other girl about to be sacrificed the great red dragon. Her parents had been killed long ago, and no one was going to miss the little urchin. Just as the sacrifices were being lined up, a hero stepped up to challenge the dragon. Wielding his holy sword Excalibur, he charged Thordak. It was a painless death, unusually merciful for Thordak. The shattered blade skidded to a halt at Nerys's feet. She didn't hesitate. She grabbed the blade and scurried to the sewer.

It was at this time that Nerys met her master; Merlyn, the grand goblin wizard. He had been awaiting to pick over the remains left by Thordak's lunch. He lurched towards the frightened girl, an easy meal; until he saw the fractured blade. He stopped dead in his tracks and let himself feel a sensation he had thought he snuffed out long ago, hope. This wretched girl held in her trembling hands the fractured holy sword Excalibur. She was now the defacto ruler of these broken lands.

Merlyn resisted the urge to devour the child, he had a far worse fate for her in mind. He would train her to slay the fire tyrant. He would show her how to harness the true power of the blade; something the last hero obviously didn't understand. Sticking to the shadows, this new king of thieves would steal the still beating heart of Thordak from his very rib-cage.
